Code of Behaviour

The Ayr State School Community, through a collaborative process, has agreed to uphold the values of:

Respect appreciating others, their feelings and their property, being considerate and showing common courtesies.
Honesty being truthful and owning up for your mistakes.
Responsibility acting sensibly and reliably towards others and controlling your own actions.
Cooperation working together, acting fairly and sharing in order to get along with each other.

Roles, Responsibilities and Rights.

Role: It is the role of all individuals within the whole School Community to uphold the Code of Behaviour by accepting and exercising their Responsibilities and Rights.
VALUE   RESPONSIBILITY   RIGHTS
RESPECT: encourage and choose acceptable behaviours within the school environment be treated with and treat others with respect, courtesy and equality
show respectful behaviour e.g. tolerance, courtesy, understanding. experience respect of one's self-ability, worth, usefulness
not to demean others self respect e.g. taunting, bullying, name calling.    
care for the school environment and property have all property valued and treated with care.
care for the property of the whole school community.    
discourage vandalism.    
 
HONESTY: always tell the truth be told the truth
find out all the facts before we act    
own up if we do the wrong thing and learn by our mistakes feel confident that people will own up if they do the wrong thing.
follow the accepted rules use fair play and appropriate behaviour.
 
RESPONSIBILITY: determine and accept fair and appropriate consequences for inappropriate behaviours a fair and just environment
monitor and follow up on infringements    
obey school rules be involved in a collaborative process of formulating school rules.
be accountable for their own behaviour and decisions e.g. personal hygiene, politeness, truthfulness.    
take care of school grounds e.g. control litter.    
encourage a warm, non-threatening, positive environment. enjoy a clean, safe environment.
support the school's safety practices.    
deal appropriately with unacceptable behaviour. teach/learn without constant interference/disruptions.
be involved in these decision making processes e.g. supportive school environment. be involved in school policy writing and procedures and be able to access this information.
communicate at mutually arranged times e.g. parent/school.    
CO-OPERATION: use a collaborative approach to ensure that the common goals are achieved. to be able to work in harmony with all members of the school community.
promote a friendly environment.    
accept directions from those in authority. to have our opinions and values respected.
ensure staff are in-serviced in co-operative teaching skills. to be accepted as a members of a team and a part of the school community.
encourage teamwork    
model teach and enforce the concept of co-operation.    

PROCEDURES FOR UPHOLDING THE CODE

At Ayr State Primary School, we believe that Behaviour Management should be based on consistency. The following strategies are some that may be used when encouraging children to be responsible members of the school community which would include following the School's Code of Behaviour.

Reward System
Positive Reinforcement for positive behaviours
- promoting values by certificates / awards ..... parade awards.
Role Modelling
Inviting outside personnel into the school..... Adopt A Cop, Civic Leaders etc.
Staff (both teaching and non teaching)
- mutual respect with the other children and teachers
-cooperative behaviour from the top down
- modelling responsible attitudes
- dealing fairly with children
- showing children we value their thoughts
- asking children their ideas and opinions and taking an interest in them.
Demonstrate correct procedures.
